in our program we’ve done a lot of projects on customer cars learning what it’s like to actually fix a car in a real life environment. We’ve gained practice on dent repair on classic cars our practice fenders and customers cars. We have done welding for rust repair and practice doing lap welds butt welds vertical and horizontal, beads and tacks. We have done filler work for practice and on classic cars and used duraglass on rust repair. We have used primers dp, surfacer, sealer and have used base coat clear coat to paint. We have done sp/2 and icar to get us certified to get ready to go out into the workforce
throgh junior year and so far through senior year I’ve done a lot in school and mostly a lot of different things at work. Junior year was all about learning what to do learning tools how to use tools. At work I’ve learned about taking the side of a truck bed off. Pulling dents on places you can’t get behind restoration of older cars cutting down the cracked filler redoing the body work to straighten out the quarters. Learned a lot about painting using the software just asking questions all the time.
We’ve also learned everything about using waterborne paint and solvent. We went through a corse where we learn how to use the scale find paint codes and properly mix paint. We mixed paint get our panels set up used tack rags we had our paint suits gloves and respirators. We learned how to use the paint booth setting It up to paint and bake. We sprayed base coat learning all paint defects how to prevent these paint defects setting up our fan and material on the gun and spraying practicing cutting in and our overlap distance and speed. We cleaned those paint guns went through that whole process and then we mixed 2k clear and learned how to properly put it on wet to make it have a factory orange peel and not have to wet sand and buff. then we learn how to turn off the booth properly
